CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING
Consecutive interpreting is a type of real-time interpreting. It involves sequential interpretation of short fragments of the source text. If the session length does not exceed four hours, the service is delivered by a single interpreter for every language.
Sessions lasting over four hours are handled by two interpreters as a single one may become tired over time, consequently letting the the quality of the interpreting deteriorate.
This type of interpreting is commonly used during trade talks, press conferences and training sessions and requires no specialist equipment.
SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING
Simultaneous interpreting is a type of real-time interpreting where the target text is delivered about simultaneously with the source text. It is used at conferences, seminars or business meetings and usually carried out by an interpreter sitting in a booth. Ocasionally, whispered interpreting is employed.
Simultaneous interpreters work in pairs, taking over from each other about every 30 minutes.
